Reason Margaret started Margaret’s arts and crafts of the smokies.  

When Covid hit Margaret got scared of bringing Covid home.  Not cause of herself but cause of me.  I am a big health risk so having had 27 surgeries at that time and all the other health issues.  She felt it was best to stay at home.  So together we set out to find something she could do from home.  So she loved doing crafts and never really had the time.  Now having plenty of time she took on doing her dream.  I set down and started putting her stuff on Facebook and developed a webpage for her to sell her stuff.  As she started gaining inventory we started going to crafts shows and watching, talking to the vendors.  We would sit and see which ones that people bought crafts and not just went for the food.  

As we grow we still go look for craft events that people go to buy crafts.  So as she made her own designs.  We started setting up at shows.  With the advice of some friends and vendors.  We began to learn what we needed to do.   

Now we started off having to take two vehicles.  We owned a Durango which is a suv, Toyato car and a mustang.  

Well as we began to grow we sold the mustang bought a truck then sold the  Durango.  Then took our flat bed trailer and traded for an enclosed trailer.  Letting us now ride together and having room to grow.  Then as weather changed and having more inventory we had to upgrade our tent.  Which then tables had to change.  One thing led into another.  We feel now we have a great inventory and enough customers, friends and vendors that we will eventually make a nice little craft store.   

We have a few places that sell our items.  One is Cam Cabins Crafts in Wears Valley which has over 50 items of her product.  Then she has  a greenhouse More Then Plants in New Market.  Eventually we hope to get a few more stores.  

Now all of our wood products are rough sawn popular that come from Creek side Lumber in New Market.  Which we bring home and have to put up in the shop stacked with slabs in between and a big fans running to dry it out.  Then it goes thru a planer  to smooth it out.   As time has went we have made some changes to how our wood goes together.  But with time and some labor we have some beautiful wood to work with.   

Our porch signs as well as most of our wood products are roughly 1 inch thick. Put together with pocket hole jig and glue which makes them durable.   And then several coats of finish of them to make her porch signs very durable.  

Margaret is always thinking of new ideals to make new items or make changes to items. So most everything can be duplicated but might not be totally alike.  But will be very close depending on availability of materials.  

So as you see we are not a fly by night crafter.  She put all our savings into doing these crafts and plan on making this a way to provide for us.  You are getting a product handmade by a beautiful woman that wanted to take care of her husband.   

We hope to see you at events or hope you order from the website.  You’re bigger items with cost of shipping which buyer pays is expensive.  So bigger items would be better bought at events or we can meet at McDonald’s at the 407 exit in Kodak.

Check out Margaret’s crafts. All items are hand painted.  Wood porch signs are made from rough popular wood.  Each of the items are all done by hand and may vary from one to another. Lumber is bought locally from a saw mill, it then has to be put into our shop and dry out then run thru a planer to smooth the lumber. At that time we then cut and put together what we are creating which is sanded then brought to the craft room where it is all hand painted and then sealed to keep the color.. We hope you enjoy your selection and thank you for your business.
